I may be a bit unclear about your query, but it seems to me that you are
confused about how a sync works.
Unlike some other CM tools, Perforce always manages your client workspace as
a complete directory tree, not as individual directories (unless you
explicitly tell it to do so).  As a result, issuing a 'p4 sync' will refresh
all directories within your client.
