[p4] Python

I have been all over the Python website and need a little "Python for
Dummies!"  I know this is side track from Perforce, but I need it only
to run this Perforce email trigger. Should I copy all of the Python
files inside a directory on the UNIX box, then run the ./configure
command from within that directory?
If you have any ideas, I would greatly appreciate them!
