Hello,
We are in the process of setting up Perforce for our company.
And we have some trouble deciding which hardware to take as server.
As it happens, an older server is available....
This is a Pentium (just plain Pentium, not Pro, II, III or IV) 100Mhz.
It has 196 Mb RAM and 4 Mb diskspace.
We'll have to increase the diskcapacity on that machine for sure.
Anyone any idea how much data an average programmer produces a year ???
Maybe you could have a look at the size of your Depot,
how long you are using it, and with how many programmers...
But what about that Pentium 100 Processor ???
Will it be enough ?
The Perforce website states that you need almost no processing power ....
Is this true ??
What Processor would you advise ??
And what about the operating system ?
Programmers over here advise us to take Unix as OS in order to avoid
filenaming problems (upper/lowercase).
Is Linux the best choice ?
Or would you propose an other Unix ?
With typical Unix hardware ???
And for what reason ??
I would appreciate any information concerning my three questions.
Kind regards,
Alain
