[p4] using P4 client notation in other applications

Hi, all. We switched to P4 six months ago, and have been
enjoying it. I'm now building a small tool to gather
files and directories together so that we can build an
installer for our product. Since we may want to do this
in several different ways, I'd like to use something like
P4 client notation to specify what files are coming from
where, and where they are going.
I'd therefore like to know if anyone has written a routine
(in any language) that parses P4 client specs, and translates
the "..." notation into actual lists of files. If so, I'd
be grateful for a pointer; if not, I'll probably write one
(in Python), and post it here.
Thanks,
Greg
