I heard once that PerForce's roots lie in CVS. Does anyone know if there's
any truth to that?

I had heard the same rumors, so when I had a chance not too long ago, I
spoke with one of Microsoft's buildmeisters and while talking about
source control, it became quite clear to me that SourceDepot was at
least, originally, Perforce. The syntax of certain commands, the
braching mechanisms, etc. all screamed Perforce. I believe they've made
a fair number of changes though. Still, it makes for good Perforce PR
even though they're not allowed to discuss it. :)
