[p4] correct way to update directory hierarchy?

Correct. You have to do a add of the entire tree to let it find the new
files unless you want to write some type of script to check for new files
against what is already in the server. Perforce will simply tell you that
you can't add an existing file on the ones that are already there, and it
will pick up all the new ones to add.

Neither these p4 diff commands, nor "Check Consistency" handle new files on
the client needed to be added, right?

p4 diff -sd
