You may be able to use Keyword Expansion:

Subject: [p4] Getting the version number/labels for files automatically

Hi,

Is there a way to have P4 to store the version of a managed file inside it
so that at run time, a program using this version will be able to display
it?

What I mean is to add to my files some $VER statement that will be replaced
by P4 to appropriate version of the file when the file is submitted.

Thanks

Gil.
