[p4] File Content Search

We purchased dtSearch which is a search tool (spider,
indexer and end-user web search interface). I have a
scheduled task that syncs several Perforce servers'
entire depots (actually I have it restricted to text
files) to a web server virtual directory that has
directory browsing turned on. I then point the
dtSearch spider at the virtual directory and it
indexes all the files. dtSearch provides a decent 'out
of the box' web search interface for end users. It
provides 'hit highlighting' similar to Google which is
nice for grabbing code snippets.

I also setup the spider to crawl our problem tracking
system, Wiki, phpBB, intranet, Sharepoint, internal
web sites, etc. This lets our internal users search
all online content 'Google-style' from one place.

There are some open source search spiders out there
but I found them lacking (htDig, etc). Also the Google
appliances did not fit our needs near as well as
dtSearch. We spent $999 on dtSearch.

Subject: [p4] File Content Search

Is there any way to do a server based search on the
content of text files stored in a perforce depot?
I would like to search a depot path for a keyword
without transferring the complete content data to the
client. Best would be an index based search on the
depot. Has anyone done this before?

Regards
Michael
