Thank you very much Jenny for your thoughtful reply.

I've learned a lot about perforce from reading the docs
and getting my hands dirty with attempting the migration,
but you've added a couple of critical insights that bring
my understanding to the next level.

My next opportunity to attempt these steps won't be
for some days, so I'll just say 'thanks' for now.  I'll send
a new post back to the list with the results of my
experience.
