Whatever Source Depot's history is, it sure sounds similar to Perforce.
Joel on Software recently had an article on Vista's source organization
at: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2006/11/29.html

Obviously, a lot of people jumped on that and made fun of Microsoft for
making it complicated, and then started throwing around the "use git!"
and other distributed source control examples from the open source
world, but I'm not certain how a distributed source control would help
Microsoft.
