[p4] How to sync my local office code with my HQ automatically

P4Proxy will cache remote Perforce server files locally. Remotely
connecting to a P4Proxy server is about the same as remotely connecting
directly to a Perforce server. Any location that wants file caching of a
remote Perforce server must install their own P4Proxy.

Yes, your HQ needs connection access to your perforce server from their
P4Proxy.

Please use reply all.

Hi jeff,

Okay, so we communicate using the list for the good of other.

On the proxy issue, Beside helping to sync code, can I use
it to synch my other colleague code if they are out station
and need to update/sync their code base with my local office ?

In addition, do my local office need to open up my perforce proxy
to the internet in order for my HQ proxy to access/sync my code ?

Thank you

Hi Jeff,

so, I advise my HQ side to install a perforce proxy to cache my code.

Do you have any msn email address for me to communicate with you if you
don't mind.

So you each have your own server. Yes, then install P4V at HQ for HQ to
cache your files at their site.

I don't understand your next question.

Hi Jeff,

Actually, my local office and HQ office have our own perforce server.
So, I instructed my HQ side to install the proxy server and point to my
perforce server ?

In addition, can you help to explain the ideal of proxy for perforce
and how it work. Why must I have to sync my code once.

Please advise. thank alot for your help.

Where is the Perforce server? Install P4V at the location not with the
Perforce server.

If you have the Perforce server at your location, then P4V at HQ will help.
Otherwise, probably not from what I understand from your email.

Hi Jeff,

Thank for your reply,
I read that perforce proxy might be able to help to sync my code
with my HQ.

But I can't full understand it from the administrator guide, chapter 9.
Could you assist/advise me whether I should install the proxy at
my HQ side or my side. I just want to sync my code to HQ, not
HQ to my side.

Thank you

Sure, P4Proxy will help speed it up for those syncing after the first person

does.

One of the simplest things to do is schedule a nightly run of a script that
simply logs in and does a sync for you.
