[p4] Recommendations for Defect Tracking Solutions

We have been using DevTrack with Perforce for over a year and are very
pleased.

FYI: Personally I wouldn't go near Seapine's TestTrack. The way that it
integrates to Perforce (or any SCM product) appears counter to what I
think most shops want (it forces developers to do all
check-outs/check-ins via the TestTrack interface).

DevTrack's integration model is simple - it provides a mapping between
DevTrack tickets and Perforce jobs, and utilizes a replication service
to keep the two in sync. And once a developer links a changelist to a
job on the Perforce side, the replication service automatically carries
the changelist data (comments, filenames, etc) over to the associated
ticket(s) in DevTrack.

This model minimizes the amount of redundant work developers need to do
directly in DevTrack - letting the work they check into Perforce speak
for itself...

My one peeve (and this is a Perforce issue) is that, while Perforce
allows multiple changelists to be associated with a single job, it
closes that job as soon as ANY of those changelists are submitted.

Since DevTrack is capable of automatically forwarding a ticket when a
job is closed on the Perforce side, and I want to take advantage of this
feature, I wrote a Perforce trigger to manage my own 'status' field.
Problem solved.

That is the only 'issue' I've had with the DevTrack/Perforce
integration.

Is nobody using DevTrack with Perforce? I'm exploring the integration
now but haven't gone very deep yet.

Hi,

I used TeamTrack for 2 years in another sites (not current one). It has
a lot of good abilities - its stages/transactions model and the graphic
configuration tool are very strong. The P4DTI is fine, but Jira/P4
integration stability is better.

We are using currently using TeamTrack. The functionality is great, but
the price is ridiculous. Our anual support alone is nearly $50k, and
we're adding 10-20 new users per year. It makes it hard to justify when
you can get Jira for $6k for the entire site (add a grand for p4
integration). And Jira looks to support all the features we use in
TeamTrack. Has anyone else made this switch or used both?

Hi,

We are using Jira:
- Simple to configure like (or a little bit better than) Bugzilla.
- Cheap paid product, not freeware, with support by manufacturer -
all for about 5K$ per site.
- Good integration with P4.
