We have depot files on Netapp and the journal and db files on a mirrored
local disk (Linux w/hardware RAID).

We checkpoint every night and store the compressed checkpoint files on
the Netapps as well.

Almost 3 years and 30+ instances of Perforce later we're still going
strong with this setup.

Subject: [p4] Perforce + Linus + Network Appliance Filer??

Do any of you have experience of using Perforce on a Linux server
with storage on a Network Appliance file server?

I am managing a Perforce system(Perforce 2005.1, Linux 2.6.10-gentoo-r4)
with local storage and my company's IT department want to move it all
onto a NetApp Filer. There are some cautions about this in the Perforce
System Admin Guide but the only real-life information I could find
on the Perforce web site was several years old.

The IT guys would like to move all the Perforce data to the Filer if
possible (including journal and P4ROOT) but might compromise
on moving just the depots, which is where most of the disk space
is used, if I could give them a solid justification for this.

So... any advice (preferably backed by experience)?

Thanks!

        John
