[*]"That way lies madness."  Unless you have a compelling reason to
reuse the oldbranch namespace, don't.  Further, it sounds like you're
trying to implement a codeline promotion model (dev->test->qa->rel).
While you can do this in Perforce, it isn't necessary, desirable, or a
natural fit with Perforce's branch and integration model.  You're
supposed to integrate changes from branch to branch, not branches from
place to place.
