[p4] P4V vs P4Win

There has not been an official statement. The Perforce Certified
Trainers have been told that P4V is the preferred GUI and that P4Win is
pretty much only getting bug fixes and enhancements to track overall
product features. That explains what you were told in your training
class. No time line has been established publicly or with the Trainers
for life end for P4Win.

Personally, I use both for reasons other than keeping up with the
product and presenting training, but I am increasingly favoring P4V. My
reasons for using P4V are that it is slicker, has undockable windows,
broader platform support, and once you get used to it's interface
paradigm, I consider it more usable. My reasons for using P4Win are more
about P4V's shortcomings than P4Win's strengths, although "Windows-like"
has a little bit of pull when my mood values familiarity over ingenuity.
There are some P4Win features that took awhile to get to P4V and I've
found a few refresh bugs in P4V that really impact some types of
activities. Over time, both of these reasons are dwindling. Also some of
the coolest P4V features are available in P4Win if you have both
installed, including Time-Lapse View, Revision Graph and the Diff/Merge
application.

I have clients that prefer P4Win. The main reason seems to be the
"Windows-like" argument. Most often this is momentum from previous use
or a support issue.
