[p4] locking files in OS X

I have recently switched from Voodoo + Code Warrior to XCode &  
Perforce. In Voodoo all my files that were not checked out by me used  
to be locked (I'm talking about the OS X file lock) and they used to  
get unlocked when I check them out for editing. In Perforce I see  
that my files are read only as long as they are not checked out, but  
they are not locked. Is there a way to keep my files locked like in  
Voodoo.
