[p4] fstst.exe statistics

Hi all,

 

We have been experiencing slowdowns on our Perforce for some time and
have made many, many changes and tests to try and find out where our
bottleneck lies. The slowdowns tend to affect all clients and cause the
client to timeout or, at best, take up to 2 or three minutes to connect
to the server. All of a sudden snap! and everything is back to normal.

 

We have 30 clients on a Gb network spread over 3 switches connected with
2Gb pipes. The server also has a teamed 2Gb NIC. We run a Proliant DL380
with and MSA20 with 3Tb RAID5 (directly attached through SCSi). The
server has 2Gb RAM (about to be upgraded to 4). Our depot is approx 60Gb
and our db files total 800Mb. The Proliant and MSA are both dedicated to
running Perforce.

 

Potential culprits we have identified:

 

Network bottleneck (i.e. 2 clients on 3rd switch try to force sync
having to pass to 1st switch to get to P4)

Lack of operational RAM

Unbalanced db's

SCSi throughput issues

RAID read capability (when tape backups are run we see similar problems
- even though on diff SCSi adapter)

 

 

I have recently got hold of the fstst.exe from Perforce and run it on
our server and wanted to post our results to compare to other peoples.
Could anyone else please post theirs so we can get an idea of the
comparable performance of other servers?
