Hi Nair,
I think you're misunderstanding the way Perforce and it's proxy (caching)
system works.
Perforce never "pushes", every transaction with the server is the result of
user action.
So the proxy never "polls" the main server - it will only attempt to access
it at all if a user requests data (or meta data) from the proxy.
In the even of a network outage severing the connection from your main
server, the proxy will not be able to respond to any requests at all. The
proxy only caches files.
But this doesn't stop your developers working - they hold working copies of
the files on their own workstations. It only stops them communicating with
the SCM system. As soon as communication is restored, they can check in any
work done, check out new files, etc.
Paul.

Subject: [p4] perforce evaluation.
Hi All,
We are currently using Telelogic CCM as our SCM tool and in the process of
evaluating perforce as our new scm tool.
In the process i would like know some of the performance related information
of the perforce proxy.
1) What happens to the check-outs in case of a network outage from the
perforce proxy ??
2) What happens to the check-ins in case of the network outage from the
perforce proxy ??
3) In general how will the proxy behave incase of a network outage ??
4) Is a reliable( always available) network madatory for the effective
functioning of a proxy ??
5) Is there any automated way of poling done by perforce proxy on network
resoration or is that a manual process ??
Can any one help us in evaluating the tool, more with respect to the
distributed mode of perforce proxy ??
regards,
Vinod
