>From the documentation, it looks like you (because your version is
earlier than 2005.1) need to run "p4 verify -u", after upgrading, to
generate the file-length data that 2005.1+ servers add. The time this
will take will vary according to the number of archives and revisions
your server has. Our "verify" process takes just over three hours.

That depends on your hardware, and on the amount of current data in your
Perforce database files.
I just ran a test upgrade of 2005.1 to 2007.1, today, with a little over
8GB of data to restore.
For me, the checkpoint took 21 minutes, the restore took about 15
minutes, the upgrade ("-xu") took about three minutes. So, for me, it
took about 40 minutes, excluding the 3+ hours it takes to run "p4
verify". I ran the test upgrade in a VMWare virtual machine, with 1GB
of RAM, in Red Hat Enterprise Linux v4.
If you really want to know how long it will take, and if there are any
caveats, I recommend that you copy your latest checkpoint and source
archives to a test server, and run through the upgrade process. Contact
Perforce if you need an extra license for your test server, so you may
then exercise the upgraded server to see if there are any noticeable
issues.

Subject: [p4] Upgrading perforce from 2004.2 to the latest version
Folks,
We are running perforce version 2004.2 (Server version:
P4D/NTX86/2004.2/76994 (2005/03/08)) and would like to upgrade to the
latest and the greatest version.
Questions:
1. What is the best way to attempt this upgrade?
2. What are the best practices/guidelines regarding this?
3. Any caveats?
4. How long does it generally take for the upgrade?
5. Any documentation?
Thanks
Nikhil
