Are you asking if it finishes what it was doing and shuts
down safely or just stops dead possibly leaving things in
a bad state?
There is a comment in the Admin guide about which signal
you want to kill the process with on Unix - you want the
one that gives it a chance to tidy up a little (15?).
I usually stop it using the p4 admin stop command and have
never had an issue with it leaving things in an unstable
state. (Seems pretty robust, we've had no problems even
in the two or three cases where the hardware died without
warning. Not that I recommend that as a way of life, mind
you.)
