[p4] problem with submit

I have seen the same problem. I have seen it with p4 and p4v and have send an e-mail to Perforce Support. Using P4V when marking a file for add or checking out an existing file, the default changelist indicates that these files are open for edit or add and then the indication disappears as if the files where not added or checked out. The strange thing is that using p4v if you look at the depot tab you can see the files have the red check mark for adding or editing but one cannot submit them.

I have been able to get around the problem ( only temporary ) by deleting the current workspace and create another one from scratch and work with it for a while. I seem to think that the problem is with the combination of new server ( 2007.1 ) and an older version of p4 or p4v (2006.1 or older)

There is no problem with file permissions since we work on Windows.

You don't say what tool (p4, P4V, P4Win) or platform you are using for
this, so I'll throw out a couple suggestions to try. The presence of
"submitunchanged" means you are using a recent server. The "marked for add"
makes me think you are using P4V.

If you were able to do "marked for add" from the GUI, then the files are
present and Perforce thinks they are in the workspace. You don't mention
any errors during this operation, so I'm assuming it was okay. If you were
working with the command line, I would suggest double checking that the
files were present and in the right place in your workspace.

I would also check permissions of the files in your workspace, particularly
on a *nix system. Did you copy them as a different user than the one you
ran the Perforce operations as?

If this all checks out, you need to look at server errors. I don't think
this is a server error, but the possibility exists. A common one if you
installed the server on a *nix system is to set it up as root to run as a
non-privileged user, but to run p4d the first time or do any file imports
as root. The result is that you have depot files and databases owned by
root that the non-privileged p4d can't modify.

Hope that helps,
Steve

Hello everyone,

i´m just getting started with Perforce and i´ve got a problem submitting
files from the workspace to depot.

i just copied some files to the C:\Test where i stored all the files for
Perforce. Then i chose "marked for add" and then used "submit" in order to
upload the files to the server. But i kept getting the error

"p4 submit -f submitunchanged -i
No files to submit.
File(s) couldn't be locked.
Submit failed -- fix problems above then use 'p4 submit -c 60'."

Where is the problem? can anyone help?

Thank u very much!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

With kind regards,

Yuanyuan Liu
