[p4] How to change Client Root definition?

Hi,
   
  For Perforce, I understand that we can override the Client Root Directory by using the "p4 client" command, and manually changing the "Root:" definition inside a text editor.
   
  Is there an API or command line option that will allow me to do the similar thing?
