[p4] migrating 4Tb depot

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the rapid response! I figured more info would help but was
unsure what may be relevant.
The depot itself is 4Tb (note Terabytes) and the metadata is only
~1.5Gb. However I'm dealing with the metadata separately. A checkpoint
is just over 1Gb and requires ~10 mins (at most)
Haven't called tech yet - was doing so closer to time and wanted to see
what user group had to say first
Source server is currently on 2007.3 - however, will be upgrading to
current as of time of migration before proceeding
Destination server will be min 4Gb - have only specced for this as
metabase is so small. Metabase will reside on 2 RAID0 SSD's separate
from SAS spindle-based depot array.
Cheers
Ben

I would start by asking the question with more data in the question: how
much of that 4 Gb is metadata, how much is stored revisions? What is the
size of (and time to create) a checkpoint?
What was the advice from tech support when you telephoned them and asked
these questions?
What versions of Perforce are you on? Will you be upgrading, at the same
time?
Have you decided to put this onto a machine with 8-16 Gb? A fast disk
subsystem?
It should not be a difficult situation, but each of these questions is
part of the initial configuration discussion.

Hi all,
I'm soon to be migrating our depot from a SCSi-bus/SATA-drive array over
to a FC-bus/SAS-drive array for performance and scalability gains.
Source is a Windows 2003 x86 and destination is a Windows 2008 x64.
The depot is currently running at about 3.5Tb and I expect it to be up
to ~4Tb by the time I can perform the migration.
I've read through the documentation for this process
(http://kb.perforce.com/AdminTasks/SuperuserTasks/MovingThePerforceServe
r) and feel comfortable with everything.
I was hoping to ask three questions:
1. From the size of the depot can anyone estimate how long the
pre-copy verify will take
2. From the size of the depot can anyone estimate how long the
post-copy verify will take (if diff from above)
3. Has anyone performed this procedure and have any advice or tips!
Thanks as always!
Ben
